Disable Thumbnail Preview In Vista

If you want to speed up browsing in Windows Explorer, the best way to do so is by disabling the Thumbnail previews in folders. To do so, open any folder and click the 'Organize' button then select 'Folder and Search options'. Next, click on the 'View' tab and check the 'Always show icons, never thumbnails' checkbox. Click on the 'OK' button and you're done.
